There is a perimeter drainage that ends in the multistage settlement ponds so the water can be reused for dust suppression and adding water to the coal before it is loaded on a ship so it won’t start burning before it’s delivered. The level in the ponds is controlled by baffle boards that can be controlled remotely. I applied a similar method for two of the erosion control projects for Lake Augusta.

The idea is to hold water from large rain events to form a near static pool in the ditch that can actually back into the field and drawdown slowly leaving solids and preventing gullying. Boards on the apron don’t reduce the volume of the culvert.

These are my favorite engineer reports on Pure Oxygen Linear Diffusion Aeration. The second one is for the design used by St. Paul Regional Water Services that treats 42 million gallons per day. E-mail me for a copy. mkampa@gmail.com
